Scottish Palaces, Castles & Gardens

5 DAYS, 4 NIGHTS | Short of time? Get to grips with Scotland in five days

Day 1: Depart Edinburgh

Depart Edinburgh for Linlithgow Palace, magnificent ruins of a great Royal Palace and favored residence of the Stewart kings and queens. Continue to Blackness Castle (Fort William in Outlander), spectacularly situated on the Firth of Forth. Head towards the Highlands for a visit to Blair Castle. Tour the castle and explore the historic park. Enlarged over 700 years, but still with the same family today, the castle has experienced both turbulent and peaceful times. Arrive at your luxury country house hotel in Pitlochry for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Balmoral & The Cairngorms

Depart Pitlochry and enter the Cairngorms National Park. Admire the views of Braemar Castle, a castle of myths and legend and once home to Clan Farquharson, and arrive Balmoral Castle mid-morning, Scottish home of the Royal Family, where you will be able to tour the gardens, visit the exhibitions, and admire the Scottish baronial architecture commissioned by Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria. Continue through the natural beauty of the Cairngorms National Park to Cawdor Castle, built around a 15th-century tower house. Visit the castle and explore the beautiful gardens. Arrive at your romantic Scottish castle hotel with a serene water-view setting for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Loch Ness & The Scottish Highlands

Depart for Loch Ness and enjoy a boat tour in search of Nessie, finishing at Urquhart Castle where you will disembark to explore this ruinous castle, heavily damaged in the Jacobite wars. Continue on a West Highland mountain drive to the romantic Castle Eilean Donan. Return across the Western Highlands and descend via Loch Garry to Invergarry for an overnight stay at a charming Scottish Highland Country Inn.

Day 4: Glencoe and Rannoch Moor and Stirling Castle

Depart Invergarry through dramatic scenery – Glencoe and Rannoch Moor for Stirling, arriving by lunchtime. On route visit the Glencoe Visitor Centre, including exhibition, and a viewing platform. Visit Stirling Castle, the last stronghold of Scotland, once the sumptuous residence for Stewart monarchs, including Mary Queen of Scots and King James. Admire the National Wallace Monument, a 19th century tower standing on the summit of Abbey Craig, commemorating Sir William Wallace, the 13th-century Scottish hero. Arrive Edinburgh for an overnight stay at a luxury boutique hotel situated in one of Edinburgh’s finest Georgian streets.

Day 5: Edinburgh

Tour finishes with a transfer to Edinburgh Airport, or extend your stay with a private sightseeing tour of Scotland’s capital.

Superior Boutique

In this category we have hand-picked five-star guest houses or smaller luxury hotels. These lodgings are often family owned and offer a truly unique, authentic and welcome atmosphere where you are more likely to engage with local people than in a higher-end hotel. Some tours involve a mixture of both Superior and Luxury Boutique.

Luxury Boutique

Through years of experience we have hand-picked luxury boutique hotels which are not only very comfortable in the traditional sense, but as importantly offer gourmet food, and an ambience of lasting memory. All our hotel choices are of unique character, range from 4-star to 5-star, and are either downtown, or enjoy a spectacular rural or village setting.

Our detailed offer to you will specify the hotels recommended.
