Majestic England: Yorkshire, The Lake District & Cotswolds  


With your chauffeur-guide explore the beautiful mountain scenery of England's Lake District, home of Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth, the peaceful valleys and ancient abbeys of the Yorkshire Dales, the elegant medieval city of York, the sweeping countryside of the Cotswolds, exuberant English gardens, the spires of Oxford, and

Windsor Castle, the largest occupied castle in the world, and the setting of a recent Royal wedding.


Day 1: Depart London 

Arrive in the ancient walled city of York for a two-night stay. You may either be collected by your chauffeur-guide from your hotel in London or arrive London, or Manchester Airport, in the morning and be at your hotel by lunchtime from Manchester, or the afternoon from London.


Day 2: York 

Whole-day exploring the ancient walled city York, a former Roman and Viking capital, of cobbled streets, and narrow lanes. Walking tour including York Minster, England's finest Gothic church, the Shambles, York's wonderfully preserved medieval quarter. The afternoon is free for you to visit one or more of York's award winning museums such as the world's greatest railway museum, the 18th century at York Castle Museum, or the Jorvik Center, where you may head back 1,000 years to Viking times,  You may also wish to enjoy afternoon tea at Betty's Tea Room, the local tea-and-cake institution with an art deco interior.


Day 3: Yorkshire Dales

Depart York for Studley Royal and Fountains Abbey, magnificent elegant Georgian water garden and medieval deer park, and ruined Cistercian abbey. Continue along a scenic backroad route of the wild yet tranquil Yorkshire Dales, some of the finest scenery in England. Pause at Bolton Castle for expansive views, before continuing to the spectacularly beautiful and mountainous Lake District in north west England.

Day 4: The Lake District

Scenic backroad tour of the best of the Lake District's dramatic mountain scenery with plenty of fun stops. Visit Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, the poet's remarkable humble home, the evocative Castlerigg Neolithic Stone Circles, Derwentwater, cruise on Coniston Water, and visit Brantwood, home of John Ruskin, beautifully situated by the lake with mountain views.

Day 5: The Lake District

Cross Lake Windermere by ferry for visit to Hilltop Farm, Beatrix Potter’s painstakingly preserved home, and nearby Beatrix Potter Gallery, a collection of artwork by the creator of Peter Rabbit. After which say goodbye to the Lake District, and head south, to the romantic and peaceful valleys of the Cotswolds, for a two-night stay in the attractive village of Broadway.

Day 6: The Cotswolds

Today, visit Hidcote Manor & Gardens, the greatest of all gardens; Chipping Campden with Jacobean Covered Market and back-in-time attractive High Street with plenty of local pubs to enjoy lunch. Continue to Snowshill Manor & Garden in the pretty village of Snowshill, setting of Bridget Jones Diary, and Broadway Tower, a 19th-century folly where William Morris once lived, with beautiful views to the Cotswolds.

Day 7: Oxford & Blenheim Palace

This morning leave for the famous university city of Oxford for an overnight stay, and a private walking tour - including visits to the Bodleian Library, the Eagle and Child Pub where C.S. Lewis and Tolkein met, and exclusive access to two colleges. In the afternoon visit nearby Blenheim Palace, a magnificent estate set on 2,100 acres of beautiful parkland, landscaped by Lancelot “Capability” Brown, and home of 12th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. 

DAY 8: Windsor Castle & London

This morning depart Oxford for Windsor Castle, the largest occupied castle in the world, and the Queen's favorite residence. Explore the interiors of this famous palace, and the setting of some recent Royal weddings. Continue to London Heathrow Airport for your return flight or central London.
